Yoga offers a movement practice that with intention and awareness can offer anyone the possibility of sitting, standing, walking and lying with greater ease. It may also offer a supportive counter-balance to other forms of exercise and also excessive stagnation - like too much sitting. Moving with care over a lifetime sets us up with a preventative practice to live longer with less rigidity, more mobility and greater stability. Yoga also offers us the opportunity to go inwards, consciously and intentionally, balancing doing and undoing, and can lead us more often through a familiar doorway into a space of calm, equanimity, and quiet. Bringing our awareness and good intentions into daily life reminds us to savour our experiences of beauty and awe. When we feel well, it's easier not only to be effective and productive, but to be kind and patient; our practice begins to spill over into all our relationships, improving not only our own small life but the world around us.
Practicing Gentle Yoga with Sarah Wells for the past 12 years has been fundamentally beneficial for my body, mind and soul. Sarah provides individual attention for her students when needed. Post hip-surgery, Sarah suggested alternative poses or chair work, always with my optimal health in mind. I appreciate the moderate class size, the beautiful welcoming studio and excellent music selection, and the soothing end-of-class meditation, sending us out into the world in a state of peace, calm and balance.
I experience these classes as a place where traditional power dynamics and boundaries between instructor and student have been successfully dissolved into a shared, interactive learning experience. An experience that explores the concept of autonomy over our bodies, the importance of an open and flexible mind, and the necessity of hope, momentum, and passion to power us into the future.
